Portrait of Labour - The Work

About me...

...taught in Jamaica, St. Thomas US Virgin Island, St. Eustatius, Saba, Australia, Canada, Italy and England. My dedication to the arts is evident in my work history. From 1992 I have demonstrated strong leadership skill by obtaining roles where I could lead, direct, choreograph or teach. At 19 years I started my first dance group KEKO,” in Jamaica, two year later I established the Afro-Caribbean Dance Theatre Company in Australia, in St. Maarten in 1999 I founded the Independent Artists Foundation,” while working as Artistic Director for the Methodist Agogic Centre and in England I also established "Ashe Dance Limited” Dance Agency Junior West Berkshire and ACE Dance Company. My job history also shows I have a great deal of experiences working with children and youth.

In addition to numerous workshops and lectures in schools, colleges, universities and with community groups, teaching dance, drama, sign language etc; I have taught on contract in St. Maarten with the Methodist Agogic Centre, Motiance Dance School and St. Maarten Academy and in the UK, I worked as project coordinator for Ludus Dance Company, teacher of Afro-Caribbean for Yorkshire Dance Centre in Leeds, and Dancer in Residence Teacher for Park House School and Sports College.

All positions afforded me experiences in teaching, amplified my skills in classroom management and community development programs and provided me with a humble awareness that the type of work I engage in is often unique and the experiences new everytime; thats good for all.

About me
I am the founder of the Independent Artists Foundation was established in 1999, based in St. Maarten. My commitment and support to the development of community dance, other performing arts activities and circus skills is vast. Thats because I believe the performing arts matter in every aspect of our social, spiritual, infact all kinds of our development. So I work for all who experience the arts with me to find some benefit or fullfillment in whatever we create. Not just for myself, but for all.

I also believe that the performing arts transform the lives of individuals, groups and communities. Everyone has the right to experience the arts, regardless of where they live, their age, gender, race, disability, economic circumstance or culture. They should all have access to creative arts programs, be allowed to participate in and progress through quality dance and or other performing arts experiences; not only for the creative aspects of the activity, but also as part of our regeneration, health, social inclusion, education and learning within the community.

...if that makes sense!
